Dr. C. V. Raman University, Kota Bilaspur Summary
Dr. C. V. Raman University at Kota in Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh, is a private university established by the AISECT Group in 2006. It was among the earliest private-university developments in Chhattisgarh and became the first university in the state associated with AISECT. The institution was created under the state’s private-university legislation and began academic functioning in the period following its establishment, with a formal inauguration in October 2007. CVRU Bilaspur has grown into a multidisciplinary university offering education in engineering and technology, computer science and information technology, commerce, management, science, arts, humanities, education, law, journalism, physical education and other professional fields. Its academic model reflects AISECT’s broader focus on technology-enabled learning, vocational capability, entrepreneurship and access to higher education outside major metropolitan centres. Undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and doctoral pathways support students at different stages of study. The campus near Kota provides laboratories, computing facilities, library resources, teaching spaces, sports and student infrastructure. The university has also developed distinctive outreach and communication initiatives. Radio Raman 90.4 FM became a notable community-radio platform connected with the institution, extending educational and social communication beyond the campus. In 2012, the CVRU-NSDC Academy strengthened the university’s formal connection with skill development and vocational training. Research, innovation, community engagement and regional development form recurring themes in the institution’s academic mission. Over time, the university has expanded from its initial programme base into a broad academic system serving students from Bilaspur, surrounding districts and other parts of central India. Its defining identity combines a 2006 statutory foundation, AISECT educational heritage, multidisciplinary study, community outreach and a sustained emphasis on practical skills alongside conventional university education. The institution also uses cultural, sports and student-development activities to complement formal teaching, giving its regional campus a broader university environment while preserving the employability and access orientation associated with AISECT.
