UK Master’s Admissions 2027: Entry Requirements for Indian Students
There is no single percentage cutoff for every UK master’s programme. Universities set their own academic and English-language requirements, and the required grades can vary by course, department and the Indian institution that awarded an applicant’s bachelor’s degree. For 2027 entry, check the specific programme page before deciding whether you meet the requirements.
For example, the University of Bristol says its master’s entry requirement is typically equivalent to a UK upper second-class degree. It says applicants from accepted Indian universities may be considered with at least 60% or a 6/10 GPA, depending on their undergraduate institution and chosen programme. Cardiff University lists approximately 55%–60% for many postgraduate taught courses, while noting that requirements vary. These examples show why an 80% rule should not be treated as a UK-wide requirement.
What applicants should check
| Requirement | What to verify for your course |
|---|---|
| Academic qualification | Whether your bachelor’s degree, institution and subject meet the course’s requirements |
| Grades | The university’s India-specific equivalency and any higher course-level cutoff |
| English proficiency | Accepted tests, minimum scores and whether each skill has a separate minimum |
| Supporting documents | Transcripts, degree certificate or predicted results, personal statement and references |
| Additional materials | Portfolio, research proposal, work experience or interview, if required by the course |
Some programmes ask for a relevant undergraduate subject, professional experience or extra material such as a portfolio or research proposal. Final-year students may be able to apply using predicted grades, but the university will specify when final results must be provided. Do not assume that a general university admissions page overrides the detailed entry criteria for your selected course.
Application timing for 2027
UK universities do not share one master’s application deadline. Each course sets its own opening and closing dates, and funding deadlines may be earlier than course deadlines. Check the 2027 course page and scholarship page now, and allow time to arrange references, transcripts and any English test. Keep copies of submitted documents and note any conditions attached to an offer.
After accepting an eligible offer, an international student will generally need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from a licensed sponsor before applying for a Student visa. GOV.UK says an application from outside the UK can be made no more than six months before the course start date. Visa rules also include financial and English-language requirements; check the current government guidance when preparing to apply, since requirements can change.
Important timing points
| Stage | Timing to remember |
|---|---|
| Course application | Use the individual programme’s 2027 deadline |
| Scholarships | Check each award’s separate deadline; it may be earlier |
| Student visa from outside the UK | Apply no more than six months before the course start date shown on the CAS |
