Technische Universität Ilmenau (TU Ilmenau) Summary
The master file contains the course portfolio with 16 undergraduate and 20 postgraduate entries, subject combinations grouped under their parent degrees where applicable. Examples of undergraduate entries are Applied Media and Communication Science, Automotive Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Later entries are Research in Media Engineering, Business Informatics, Industrial Engineering and Management. Postgraduate Study: Automotive Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering by Research, Communications and Signal Processing, Computer Engineering, Computer Science to Research in Media Engineering, Technical Physics, Industrial Engineering and Management Each course remains a parent qualification and the specialisations are recorded in the course entry rather than being misrepresented as separate degrees. This row highlights the major parent qualifications and keeps concentrations, subject combinations, teaching tracks and elective pathways within the proper degree, not as separate programs.
Admission is done at program level. Students adhere to the Campus Portal and pathway as set out for their qualification and program. International certificates, English-taught master’s programs, aptitude requirements, academic subject reviews and language evidence lead to programme-specific procedures; applications for non-European certificates will be charged €75 in 2026. Before submitting, applicants must check the language of instruction, entry semester, subject prerequisites, selection procedure and the document path. International School or University Qualifications External evaluation, certified translations, APS documentation where applicable or other proof of academic equivalence may be required. Master’s committees may ask for module descriptions, portfolios, writing samples, professional experience, or interviews. Entry to a doctorate is distinct from admission to a bachelors or masters degree and generally requires a viable research proposal, eligible supervision and formal acceptance by the relevant faculty.
There is no general tuition for normal degree study. The base contribution that has been published for the winter semester 2026/27 is €321.80 (€226.80 for the Germany semester ticket plus €95 for student services and the student-council contribution as shown in the Campus Portal). The institutional fees mentioned above do not cover rent, health insurance, food, learning materials, residence formalities, project costs or personal travel. Special tuition may be applied in the case of continuing-education, distance-learning, joint, second-degree or long-term study formats, if provided for by the relevant law or program regulation. Funding may include BAföG for eligible students, the Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD and Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, research employment or university-specific awards, but each funding application is assessed independently from admission.
Career preparation is a reflection of the subject mix of the university, not a guarantyd placement scheme. Internships, applied projects, research assistantships, employer events, language development, entrepreneurship services, international mobility and a thesis developed in cooperation with an external partner can all help to improve professional readiness.
