SANJAY GHODAWAT UNIVERSITY, KOLHAPUR Summary
Sanjay Ghodawat University is a private unitary university near Kolhapur, Maharashtra, established through Maharashtra Act No. XL of 2017. The university operates from a campus at Atigre and is run by Sou. Sushila Danchand Ghodawat Charitable Trust. Its creation built on the earlier Sanjay Ghodawat Group of Institutions, which had developed affiliated higher-education programmes before the transition to university status. The 2017 university framework provided academic autonomy for curriculum design, governance, assessment, research and the introduction of new programmes. At launch, the university organized schools in technology, commerce and management, liberal arts, science and education, and it has subsequently broadened its academic structure. The campus covers more than fifty acres and includes the infrastructure needed for teaching, laboratories, research, student activities and residential services. Sanjay Ghodawat University's approach combines disciplinary knowledge with practical learning, skill development, innovation and industry engagement. The university's location in the Kolhapur region gives it access to a strong manufacturing, engineering, agriculture and business environment in western Maharashtra. Its predecessor institutions had already developed academic processes, faculty and facilities, which supported the university's early transition. The Maharashtra establishing act is dated 3 May 2017 and the university began functioning in the same broad period. The institution was created as a unitary university rather than an affiliating university. University governance includes statutory bodies such as its academic and governing councils. Curricula and assessment systems can be updated within the university's autonomous framework. The institution continues the Ghodawat education group's development from affiliated colleges to a multidisciplinary private university. The shift to university status allowed the institution to design its own academic structures while retaining experience from the earlier affiliated colleges. Students study in a campus environment shaped by professional education, applied learning and the entrepreneurial culture of the Ghodawat group. This combination supports the university's continuing academic expansion in western Maharashtra.
