Winter deadlines are usually June 15 for international masters applications and July 15 for many other routes. Before applying applicants have to check teaching language, entry semester, subject prerequisites, selection procedure and document route. Master’s committees may require module descriptions, portfolios, writing samples, professional experience or interviews. Admission to doctoral studies differs from admission to bachelor's or master's programs and usually requires a valid research proposal, the availability of adequate supervision and a formal acceptance by the responsible faculty.

Funding (e.g. BAföG for eligible students, Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD and Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, research employment or university-specific awards) is available, but each funding application is evaluated separately from admission.
Career preparation reflects the university’s subject mix, but is not a guarantyd placement scheme. Students may improve their professional readiness through internships, applied projects, research assistantships, employer events, language development, entrepreneurship services, international mobility, and an externally partnered thesis.
