Indira University Summary
Indira University is a state private university in Pune, Maharashtra, established in 2025 after more than three decades of educational development under Shree Chanakya Education Society. The society was founded in Pune in 1994 with a focus on management, entrepreneurship and professional education. Over time, the Indira Group of Institutes expanded into a multi-institution education network covering management, information technology, pharmacy, commerce, science, engineering, mass communication and other areas. The university was included in Maharashtra's private-university framework through Maharashtra Act No. XV of 2025. Its statutory date of establishment is 1 January 2025, and institutional disclosure records 13 March 2025 as the date it became operational. In June 2025, the University Grants Commission recorded the university in the list of institutions established under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act. Indira University operates from the Indira educational campuses in the Tathawade area of Pune, using facilities developed by the sponsoring society's long-standing education network. Its academic vision emphasizes innovative teaching, research, leadership, entrepreneurship and societal impact. Rather than starting without an institutional base, the university consolidates existing academic experience and infrastructure developed by the Indira Group over many years. Its central story is therefore the transition of a 1994 education society and a broad professional-education network into a statutory multidisciplinary university serving the Pune metropolitan region. The university's creation brought multiple Indira educational locations in Tathawade into a single statutory university framework. The sponsoring society's three-decade history provides the institutional base for the university's current multidisciplinary model. Its sponsoring body, Shree Chanakya Education Society, was founded in 1994. The Indira Group developed a network of institutions before university status. The group has experience in management, IT, pharmacy, commerce, science, engineering and media education. UGC correspondence in June 2025 recorded the university under Section 2(f).
