Top Design Colleges in India for 2027: Rankings, Courses and College Admissions
Students comparing design colleges for 2027 should first check what a ranking actually measures. As of November 3, 2026, no official national ranking specifically for design colleges in 2027 was available on the Ministry of Education’s NIRF website. NIRF lists Architecture and Planning as a ranking category, but that is not a design-college ranking. Private surveys may publish design lists, but their methods and categories can differ, so their ranks should not be treated as one government-approved national order.
Instead of presenting an unverified 2027 ranking, this guide lists established public institutions with dedicated design or fashion programmes and the main College Admissions route students should investigate. The list is a shortlist, not a rank order.
Design Colleges to Consider

| IIT Bombay, IDC School of Design | Industrial design, communication design, interaction design and related areas | UCEED for undergraduate admission; CEED and institute rules for postgraduate programmes. |
| IIT Delhi, Department of Design | Design education and research across product, interaction and related fields | Check the department’s current programme-specific admission notice. |
| IIT Guwahati, Department of Design | Design education integrating creative practice, technology and research | Check UCEED and the institute’s official admission notice for the programme and year. |

How to Compare Colleges
Compare the exact degree, specialisation, studio facilities, faculty, internship access, fees, scholarships and portfolio expectations. Check whether a campus offers the course you want; a well-known institution may not offer every design specialisation at every location. Review the current prospectus before applying, since eligibility, entrance tests and seat availability can change between admission cycles.
For a fair comparison, look at each institution’s official curriculum and published placement information, then read private rankings only as an additional reference. A survey rank does not guarantee admission, employment or a particular salary.
