Pforzheim University Summary
Pforzheim University is a state University of Applied Sciences located in Pforzheim, Baden-Württemberg. Pforzheim University provides internationally renowned design education in combination with engineering and an AACSB accredited Business School with a focus on management, economics, law and international business. Its institutional development begins with 1877 — a ducal arts-and-crafts school founded Pforzheim’s higher design tradition. The early school was adept at jewellery, metalwork and decorative arts. Today its academic profile includes design, jewellery, fashion, transportation design, visual communication, engineering, computer science, business administration, business law and international management. Location is key: Pforzheim is the northern gateway to the Black Forest and a historic jewellery center between the technology, automotive, manufacturing and creative economies of Stuttgart and Karlsruhe.
The course portfolio shown in this master file includes 20 undergraduate and 18 postgraduate entries with subject combinations grouped under their parent degrees as appropriate. Undergraduate examples: Accessory Design, Fashion, Industrial Design, Jewellery, Transportation Design, Visual Communication. Later: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, International Marketing. Postgraduate study spans Creative Direction, Design and Future Making, Transportation Design, MBA International Management, Corporate Communication Management, Digital Business Management to International Finance, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business Transformation. Each course is still a parent qualification with the specialisations attached to the course entry, rather than being incorrectly presented as separate degrees. Named bachelor routes will keep their business specialisations. Studio-based design degrees and technical qualifications remain separate programs because their entry and curricula are materially different.
Admission is handled at the program level. Applications are submitted via the university application system and, for many bachelor’s programs, via Hochschulstart. International documents, design portfolios, aptitude tests and the International Business entrance procedure are subject to program-specific regulations. Before submitting, applicants should check the language of instruction, the entry semester, subject prerequisites, selection procedure and document route. International School or University Qualifications External evaluation, certified translations, APS documentation where applicable or other proof of academic equivalence may be required. Master’s committees may require module descriptions, portfolios, writing samples, professional experience or interviews. Admission to the doctoral program is separate from admission to the bachelor's or master's program and normally requires a feasible research proposal, eligible supervision and formal admission by the responsible faculty.
Students from the EU and EEA do not normally have to pay tuition fees for regular degree programs. Most non-EU degree students pay €1,500 per semester under the law of Baden-Württemberg, the current semester contribution is €221, and exemptions, second-degree fees and continuing programs are assessed separately. These institutional charges do not include rent, health insurance, food, learning materials, residence formalities, project costs or personal travel. If provided for by the relevant law or program regulation, special tuition may be provided for continuing-education, distance-learning, joint, second-degree, or long-term study formats. Funding (e.g. BAföG for eligible students, Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD and Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, research employment or university-specific awards) is available, but each funding application is evaluated separately from admission.
Career Preparation is not a guarantyd placement scheme and reflects the subject mix of the university. Projects and careers are supported by design studios, car manufacturers, producers, banks, consultancies, digital companies, luxury goods houses, logistics companies, and internationally active Mittelstand employers. Internships, applied projects, research assistantships, employer events, language development, entrepreneurship services, international mobility and an externally partnered thesis can all help students become more ready for a professional career. Pforzheim is especially interesting for applicants looking for an unusual combination of premium design traditions, accredited business study and applied engineering.
