At program level admission is controlled. Bachelor applicants need a recognised university entrance qualification or an eligible vocational pathway. A suitable first degree and course-specific subject credits are required for entry to the Master’s. Dual programs also require a cooperating employer, and individual courses may require sector experience, an internship or language evidence. Applicants must check the teaching language, entry semester, subject prerequisites, selection procedure and document route before submission. External evaluation, certified translations, APS documentation where applicable, or other proof of academic equivalence may be required for international school or university qualifications. Master’s committees may require module descriptions, portfolios, writing samples, professional experience, or interviews. Entry to the doctoral program is independent from the bachelor’s or master’s admission and usually requires a viable research proposal, eligible supervision and formal acceptance by the responsible faculty.
IST publishes transparent monthly tuition fees by study model. Typical bachelor’s fees are €379 per month full-time, €319 part-time, and €349 for dual study. Tuition costs for masters and certificate programs differ by course and length, and in dual programs, a cooperating company often pays tuition. These institutional charges do not cover rent, health insurance, food, learning materials, residence formalities, project costs or personal travel. If provided for by the relevant law or program regulation, special tuition can be applied in the case of continuing-education, distance-learning, joint, second-degree, or long-term study formats. Funding may include BAföG for eligible students, the Deutschlandstipendium, DAAD and Erasmus+ mobility support, foundations, research employment or university-specific awards, but each funding application is assessed independently of admission.
Career preparation is not a guarantyd placement scheme, but is a reflection of the university’s subject mix. Internships, applied projects, research assistantships, employer events, language development, entrepreneurship services, international mobility and an externally partnered thesis are some of the ways in which students may improve their professional readiness.
