Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) Summary
European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) is a public foundation university in Brandenburg, which revolves around a cross-border European mission. Founded in 1991, it took the name of the historical University of Frankfurt, which existed between 1506 and 1811, but the present institution is a modern university, not an unbroken continuation. Its location on the Oder River, directly opposite the Polish city of Słubice and close to Berlin, influences teaching, research, language study and student mobility. The academic work is focused in three core faculties – Law; Business Administration and Economics; and Social and Cultural Sciences – along with the European New School of Digital Studies and interdisciplinary programs. The compact city-center campus offers surprisingly easy access for cross-faculty study and advising.
The university’s current program portfolio integrates law, economics, business, politics, culture, language, media, digital transformation, entrepreneurship, European studies and human rights and conflict management. At the bachelor level, the university offers the First State Examination in Law, German and Polish Law, interdisciplinary combinations of law and politics or law and business, International Business Administration, dual study programs in Business Taxation and Auditing, and studies in cultural and social disciplines. From the winter semester 2026/27, the cultural and social sciences portfolio will be broadened by the Bachelor’s program Culture and Society and several redesigned Master’s programs.
Master’s programs are available in International Business Administration, European Studies, European Economic Law, German and Polish Law, Digital Entrepreneurship, Digital Studies, Central and East European Studies, Conflict and Democracy, Language and Media Studies, Social Studies and a number of continuing-education programs. The International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law LL.M. is a fee-paying LL.M. taught in English over three full-time semesters. It costs €7,900 (not including the semester contribution). “Normally, there is no tuition charged for consecutive programs. The published contribution for the winter semester 2026/27 is €402.80 for students in the 1st semester and €396.80 for students in further semesters.
Internationality is a matter of structure, not of decoration. The business faculty has more than 200 partner universities and several degrees have mandatory or optional mobility and double-degree paths. Cross-border study is also present in German-Polish law, European regional studies, multilingual language training, and cooperation with Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and institutions in Paris, Kraków, Cluj-Napoca, and other European cities. Applicants must follow the precise program route. Some degrees are open admission, some restricted, dual courses need a practice partner, and continuing education programs require professional experience and charge tuition.
For some programs, applicants with foreign qualifications may be processed through uni-assist . Master’s programs look at what credits you have in specific subjects, your language proof and, if applicable, your work experience or selection criteria. Doctoral studies in law, economics and cultural and social sciences are offered by the faculties. Career support includes links with employers, a Career Center, start-up support, international mobility and global alumni network. Viadrina is especially suitable for students who want a small international university with strong European, German-Polish, legal, cultural and cross-border dimensions.
