Europa-Universität Flensburg Summary
Europa-Universität Flensburg is a public university in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein with a unique profile in education, Europe, languages, culture, social transformation, international management and sustainable energy. It is situated near the Danish border and considers European and cross-border perspectives as realistic parts of the curriculum. The university shares a campus with the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, but is a separate institution. EUF focuses on teacher education, social sciences, humanities, business and sustainability, whilst the adjacent applied-sciences university has a separate technical and media portfolio. It is still a fairly small and personal academic enterprise.
The EUF undergraduate catalogue is concise and well-organised. European Cultures and Society is a 6-semester Bachelor’s degree, taught in English, with a mandatory study period abroad. International Management is a mixture of business administration and intercultural and language studies with the possibility of a German-Danish double degree. Social Sciences: Social and Political Change is bi-lingual and requires international mobility. Transcultural European Studies is a joint degree taught in German, French and Spanish contexts over eight semesters. It involves study in three countries and a compulsory internship. Educational Sciences is the primary entry to teacher education, and provides students with the opportunity to build a pathway from a wide range of school subjects.
The master’s portfolio comprises European Studies, Culture – Language – Media, International Management Studies, Transformation Studies, Educational Science: Education in Europe and Sustainable Energy. The three-semester M.Eng. Sustainable Energy has specialisations in Engineering, Transition and Development and is offered in English and German. Teacher education is broad EUF educates teachers for primary, comprehensive, secondary, special and vocational schools. The six-semester program includes a dual master's degree in special education along with paid professional practice. Vocational courses range from domestic science and industrial and technical subjects to nutrition.
Admission is per course. The standard application period is from May 15 to July 15, but deadlines may be different for international and individual programs. If you are applying for a Bachelor’s you will need a recognised higher education entrance qualification and any subject, language or aptitude evidence stated by the degree you have chosen. Applicants for a master’s in teacher education must have the right background in education science subjects. Some other master’s programs will take into account the relevance of the first degree and the credits obtained. Doctoral candidates applying in represented fields bypass the taught-course filter by supervision and university procedures.
There are no tuition fees for regular degree programs at the EUF. The registration fee is a one-time payment of €60. The contribution for the autumn semester 2026/27 is €403.80 (including the public-transport contribution). One exception for continuing education, the master’s for directors of early childhood educational facilities, costs €690 per semester plus other fees and is not regarded as a tuition-free consecutive degree. Career support links teacher candidates to school practice and international students to integration into the German labour market. The university’s small campus, maritime city, multilingual setting and location by the Danish border makes it especially relevant for applicants interested in education, European studies, cross-border business, sustainability or social change in a personal academic environment. Advisory’s still easy to get to.”
