GATE 2026 Response Sheet Released at GOAPS Portal: How to Download and Check Answers
The GATE 2026 response sheet was released by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati on February 22, 2026, through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). Candidates who appeared for the examination can use the portal to review their recorded responses and compare them with the official answer keys.
The response sheet is a candidate-specific record of answers submitted during the computer-based examination. It helps aspirants understand their performance, calculate an estimated raw score and review answers against the master question paper. The response sheet, answer key and final scorecard serve different purposes, so candidates should not treat them as interchangeable documents.

How to Calculate an Estimated GATE 2026 Score
To estimate marks, candidates need to compare their recorded answers with the relevant official answer key and apply the marking scheme for their paper. GATE includes multiple-choice questions (MCQs), multiple-select questions (MSQs) and numerical answer type (NAT) questions.
MCQs carry negative marking for incorrect answers: one-third of the marks assigned to a one-mark question and two-thirds of the marks assigned to a two-mark question. MSQs and NAT questions do not carry negative marking under the published scheme. MSQs require all correct options to be selected, without selecting an incorrect option, to receive full marks.
For papers conducted in multiple sessions, normalization may apply. Therefore, an estimated raw score may differ from the final score reported by the examination authority.
Response Sheet vs Answer Key vs Scorecard
- Response sheet: Records the answers selected by an individual candidate.
- Answer key: Provides the official answers used to evaluate responses.
- Scorecard: Reports the candidate's GATE score and relevant qualification information.
