Telangana Government Highlights Education Initiatives and Measures for Students
The Telangana government has highlighted a series of education and skill-development initiatives aimed at strengthening government schools, improving student nutrition and expanding employment-oriented training. State Labour Minister G. Vivek Venkataswamy said the measures range from school meal programmes and teacher recruitment to new residential schools and Advanced Technology Centres.
Speaking on September 29, 2026, Venkataswamy said the government is focusing on both conventional education and skill development so that students have stronger academic support as well as pathways towards employment.

Breakfast and Midday Meal Programmes for Students
Venkataswamy highlighted the school nutrition programme after inaugurating a breakfast initiative in Medak district. He said students had responded positively to the food being provided and argued that better nutrition support could also encourage more families to enrol children in government schools.
The Telangana government has separately said it is providing breakfast and milk in government schools and has extended midday meals to students up to Class 12.
- Breakfast support for government-school students
- Milk provision as part of student nutrition measures
- Midday meals extended through Class 12
- ₹927 crore announced for breakfast and milk
- Government expects nutrition support to strengthen student welfare and enrolment
Teacher Recruitment and Government School Enrolment
The minister also pointed to teacher recruitment as an important part of strengthening government education. He said around 10,000 teachers had been recruited after the current government came to power.
Recent education reviews have also reported an increase of more than 80,000 students in government schools, alongside plans for additional infrastructure upgrades.
Young India Schools and Telangana Public Schools
Another major component is the expansion of school infrastructure. Venkataswamy referred to plans for Young India schools and Telangana Public Schools.
| School Initiative | Plan Highlighted |
|---|---|
| Young India Schools | Minister referred to plans for 219 schools |
| First-Phase Integrated Residential Schools | 105 schools previously announced |
| Estimated First-Phase Investment | Approximately ₹21,000 crore |

119 Advanced Technology Centres Focus on Job Skills
The government is also focusing on vocational and technical education. Venkataswamy said 119 Advanced Technology Centres are being established to help students acquire employment-oriented skills.
The state has been converting Industrial Training Institutes into Advanced Technology Centres with greater focus on modern technologies, industry requirements and placements.
- Skill-development programmes linked to employment
- Modernisation of existing ITIs
- Training aligned with new technologies
- Greater industry exposure for students
- Employment and campus-placement opportunities
New Skills Including EV and Drone Technology
Telangana has also been considering newer technical courses linked to emerging industries. The government has discussed introducing training in areas such as electric-vehicle servicing and drone technology at Advanced Technology Centres.
Students in government engineering colleges, ITIs, ATCs and polytechnic institutions have also been identified for greater internship opportunities with companies so that they can gain workplace exposure while studying.
What These Measures Mean for Telangana Students
The latest education measures combine three broad priorities: student welfare, stronger government-school infrastructure and job-oriented skills. Nutrition programmes are intended to support school participation, recruitment is aimed at strengthening teaching capacity, while technical centres are designed to connect education more closely with employment.
Implementation will ultimately determine how widely students benefit from these measures. Students and parents should continue to follow official Telangana education and school-department announcements for institution-level implementation, eligibility and programme schedules.
