Naysa Uses Technology and Research to Address Farmers’ Challenges
Class 12 student Naysa is combining agricultural technology, data analysis and economic research to explore issues affecting farmers, from soil management and crop storage to market prices and access to government schemes.
Naysa, a student at Jaishree Periwal International School, has developed projects that apply classroom learning to practical questions in agriculture. Her work includes AgriBOT, a soil-testing rover; GrainOS, a tool designed to support post-harvest decisions; and research examining how Minimum Support Price (MSP) mechanisms work for farmers in Haryana.
AgriBOT: a soil-testing rover for farmers
Naysa co-created AgriBOT to assess soil pH, nutrient levels and moisture. The device analyses soil conditions and estimates the appropriate amount of fertiliser. During testing, its readings showed 95% similarity with laboratory results, while fertiliser measurements were accurate within two millilitres, according to the report.
The rover was developed at an approximate cost of ₹1,500. The report says the technology has been scaled across 300 hectares through Haryana’s Irrigation Department. Naysa has also held farmer workshops and developed the Lawify app to help users apply for pension programmes and maintain land records.
GrainOS focuses on storage and sale decisions
Her work also addresses challenges that arise after harvest. GrainOS uses sensors to monitor temperature, moisture and carbon dioxide levels in stored wheat. It compares storage conditions with prevailing mandi prices to generate recommendations intended to help farmers consider whether to store or sell their produce.
| Project or research | Focus |
|---|---|
| AgriBOT | Soil pH, nutrients, moisture and fertiliser measurement |
| GrainOS | Wheat storage conditions and mandi-price information |
| Lawify | Support with pension applications and land records |
| MSP research | Harvest prices, mandi prices and procurement volumes |
Research into MSP and farmer income
Naysa’s research examined whether MSP mechanisms benefit agricultural producers in practice. She analysed district-level data on harvest prices, mandi prices and procurement volumes, and interviewed farmers across Haryana. The findings were compiled into a policy brief and submitted to the Haryana government.
- AgriBOT addresses soil assessment and fertiliser measurement.
- GrainOS brings storage-condition data together with mandi prices.
- Lawify focuses on access to selected public schemes and land records.
- The MSP project combines market data with interviews and policy analysis.
Naysa’s project milestones
| Milestone | Work described |
|---|---|
| Soil analysis | AgriBOT was developed and tested against laboratory readings. |
| Farmer outreach | Workshops and the Lawify app extended the projects beyond hardware. |
| Post-harvest focus | GrainOS was designed to inform wheat storage or sale decisions. |
| Policy research | MSP findings were compiled into a brief for the Haryana government. |
The projects have also received competition recognition: GrainOS placed second among 13,000 entries at IIT Guwahati, reached the Diamond Challenge finals and won the Capital One Topical Prize. Naysa’s work connects technology with field research and economic questions, while its reported results describe project testing and development rather than independently verified outcomes for farmers at large.
