GATE 2027 Application Scrutiny Underway; Defects Can Be Rectified Until October 31
Application scrutiny for GATE 2027 is in progress at the zonal institutes. Candidates whose forms are marked defective and who receive a notification must correct the specified issues through the application portal by October 31, 2026. The defect-rectification window runs from October 14 to October 31, and the official portal says no additional fee is charged for these corrections.
This window is specifically for defects identified during scrutiny. It is not a general application-edit period. Candidates should log in to the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS), read the defect message and follow the instructions sent by email. A separate data-correction window that may allow other changes is listed as upcoming, with its date still to be announced.

How to Check Your Application Status
- Log in to GOAPS using the account used to submit the GATE 2027 application.
- Check whether the status says “Under Scrutiny,” “Defective,” or “Application Accepted.”
- Review the registered email for a defect notice and the zonal institute’s instructions.
- If marked defective, correct only the issue identified and upload or submit the requested information through the portal.
- Return to GOAPS to confirm that the corrected application is back under scrutiny or has been accepted.
“Under Scrutiny” means the application is still being reviewed; it does not by itself indicate a problem. “Application Accepted” means scrutiny is complete and no further action is required. If a form is marked defective, applicants should act on the specific notice promptly. Examples of issues that may require correction include an incorrect or mismatched photo ID upload or a defect in the photograph or signature.
Applicants should keep access to the DigiLocker account used during submission. The GATE 2027 portal says future communications will be sent in connection with that account. Candidates with questions can use the zonal contact details on the official site or contact the GATE-JAM helpdesk.
