Allahabad High Court Orders Fresh Physical Tests for UP Police and Home Guard Candidates
The Allahabad High Court has granted relief to certain candidates who were rejected during the Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment 2025 and Home Guard Recruitment 2025 after their height or chest measurements were recorded below the prescribed physical standards. The court has directed a fresh assessment by a medical board at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, giving eligible candidates another opportunity to establish that they meet the recruitment requirements.
The order is significant for applicants who believe discrepancies in their Physical Standard Test (PST) measurements affected their selection. The court’s direction is not a general reopening of the recruitment process; it applies to the candidates and categories covered by the pending petitions.
Allahabad High Court Order: Key Dates and Instructions
According to reports published on October 17, 2026, the court has directed the principal of KGMU to constitute a medical board to conduct fresh measurements. The board will examine eligible candidates’ physical measurements independently and submit its findings to the court.
- October 31, 2026: Candidates covered by the order must report to KGMU, Lucknow, at 10:00 am.
- November 4, 2026: The medical board must submit its report to the High Court in a sealed envelope. The matter is also scheduled for the next hearing on this date.
Candidates should read the court order and any instructions communicated through their lawyers carefully. The relief is subject to the categories and conditions specified by the court.
Which Candidates Can Appear for Fresh Measurements?
The petitions were divided into five categories. The court granted relief to candidates in the first four categories, covering cases involving differences between earlier and current height or chest measurements, discrepancies between an initial test and an appeal measurement, and certain candidates who said they could not appeal because they were unaware of the process or had only a short period to do so.
However, candidates whose measurements were recorded identically during both the original test and the appeal, and who relied on certificates from private hospitals or doctors to challenge those results, were not granted relief under the reported order.
The court considered whether errors in earlier measurements could have occurred. It directed that the medical board should not be informed of candidates’ previous measurements, helping the board carry out an independent assessment rather than being influenced by earlier results.
Documents Candidates Must Carry
Eligible candidates have been advised to carry the following documents when reporting for the fresh measurement exercise:
- Aadhaar card or another valid identity document.
- The relevant Physical Standard Test (PST) admit card.
- A certified copy of the High Court order.
Reports also state that no separate notice will be issued to each candidate under the court’s directions. Candidates who fail to appear as instructed may not receive another opportunity under this order. They should confirm their eligibility through their legal representatives before travelling.
What the Order Means for UP Police and Home Guard Recruitment
The direction provides a limited remedy for candidates who raised concerns about potentially inconsistent physical measurements. It does not mean that every rejected applicant will be re-examined, nor does it guarantee appointment to any candidate. The fresh medical board’s findings will be submitted to the court, and further action will depend on the proceedings and applicable recruitment rules.
Candidates should continue to follow official recruitment updates from the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board and consult their legal representatives for instructions specific to their petitions.
