IIT Bombay vs IIT Delhi: 2026 BTech Fees, Placements and Recruiters
IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi remain two of India’s most sought-after engineering institutes, but comparing them requires more than looking at a headline package or total fee. Their published placement figures cover different academic years and stages, while fees depend on family income, category, residence and the charges included. The figures below use each institute’s 2026–27 BTech fee information and the latest placement updates located for each campus.
IIT Bombay vs IIT Delhi: BTech fee comparison
| Fee detail for 2026 entrants | IIT Bombay | IIT Delhi |
|---|---|---|
| General-category tuition | ₹1,00,000 per semester | ₹1,00,000 per semester for family income above ₹5 lakh |
| Published initial fee amount | ₹1,34,150 for Indian nationals, including one-time charges, one semester’s academic fees and refundable deposits | ₹1,31,000 for hostel residents; ₹1,22,400 for day scholars, for family income above ₹5 lakh |
| Fee relief | SC, ST and PwD students are exempt from tuition fees | Tuition fee varies by family income; SC, ST and PwD students are exempt |
| Residence and mess costs | Hostel charges are separate from the academic fee figure | The listed hostel-resident total includes the institute’s hostel seat rent; mess charges are separate |
These are entry-year amounts, not the full four-year cost. Hostel, mess and later-semester charges can change the total. IIT Delhi also applies income-based tuition relief for eligible General, OBC and GEN-EWS students. Candidates should check the current fee circular and concession conditions before accepting an offer.
Placements and branch-wise information
IIT Bombay’s 2024–25 annual report gives an average salary of ₹26.45 lakh per annum and a median of ₹20 lakh. Its detailed 2023–24 placement report also publishes department-wise counts: 230 students placed in Computer Science and Engineering, 232 in Electrical Engineering and 229 in Mechanical Engineering. These are placement counts, not branch-wise salary figures.
IIT Delhi’s latest placement update located for the 2025–26 season reported 1,275 offers, including pre-placement offers, and more than 1,140 students placed by December 2025. It named recruiters including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments. This was an in-progress update, so it should not be compared directly with IIT Bombay’s completed annual figures. The available IIT Delhi announcement does not provide a matching branch-wise salary table.
What applicants should compare
- Compare the same programme, branch and degree level rather than institute-wide figures alone.
- Check whether placement data counts offers, unique students placed, or students registered for placements.
- Use median salary alongside average salary where both are officially reported.
- Compare branch-wise placement rates only when the year and calculation method match.
- Estimate total fees using your category, family income, hostel status and mess costs.

Aspirants should combine verified fee details with programme curriculum, preferred branch, placement methodology and career goals when making a choice.
