GATE 2026 EE Cutoff: Check IIT and NIT Cutoff Trends
The GATE 2026 Electrical Engineering (EE) cutoff depends on what you mean by “cutoff.” The qualifying cutoff is the minimum mark required to qualify in GATE. IIT and NIT admissions use separate institute- or programme-level criteria, which can vary by category, specialization and counselling round. Qualifying GATE does not guarantee an MTech seat.
GATE EE qualifying cutoff: 2024–2026
The official qualifying marks below are out of 100. They are useful for tracking the exam threshold, but they are not IIT or NIT admission cutoffs.
| GATE year | General | OBC-NCL/EWS | SC/ST/PwD |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 25.7 | 23.1 | 17.1 |
| 2025 | 25.0 | 22.5 | 16.6 |
| 2026 | 27.7 | 24.9 | 18.4 |
The EE qualifying cutoff fell slightly in 2025 and rose in 2026. This year’s increase means candidates needed higher marks to qualify, but it does not by itself show how competitive a particular MTech programme is.
How IIT and NIT cutoffs differ
| Institute group | How to check admission cutoffs | What affects the result |
|---|---|---|
| IITs | Check each IIT’s programme-specific admission notices and offers through COAP. | Programme, accepted GATE paper, category, seats and institute criteria. |
| NITs and participating institutes | Review CCMT opening and closing scores for the relevant programme and round. | Programme, category, institute preference and counselling round. |
When comparing past admission trends, use the relevant admission score and programme-level closing data. Do not compare a raw mark out of 100 directly with a GATE score or assume one EE cutoff applies to every specialization. Power systems, control, power electronics and other programmes can have different requirements.
Admission timeline
- GATE result: Check your EE marks, qualifying status and scorecard.
- Institute applications: Apply separately to the IIT programmes you are considering and check their eligibility rules.
- Offer and counselling stages: Follow COAP for IIT offers and CCMT for participating NITs and other institutes.
- Seat acceptance: Follow the assigned portal’s deadlines for accepting an offer, paying fees and reporting.
What candidates should do
- Shortlist programmes that accept your GATE paper and meet your eligibility.
- Compare category-wise closing scores across multiple rounds where available.
- Keep institute applications and counselling deadlines on your calendar.
- Check official institute and counselling portals before acting on a cutoff estimate.
Use the 2026 qualifying marks as a starting point, then assess admission chances against the specific programme and category you are targeting. The most useful trend is the one tied to your preferred course and institute—not the qualifying cutoff alone.
