Galgotias University Hosts Formula Imperial and Indian Karting Race 2026 With 40 Teams
Forty student teams from 37 engineering institutions and 14 states came together for Formula Imperial and the Indian Karting Race 2026, turning Greater Noida into a national showcase for student-built motorsport vehicles.
Galgotias University hosted the opening of the event, where teams competed in Go-Kart and Formula Imperial categories. Organised by the Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers (ISIEINDIA) and co-organised by the university, the competition asked students to design, build and race their vehicles. That format puts engineering decisions under real pressure: teams must bring together design, practical construction, testing and coordination to get a vehicle ready for competition.
The scale was a key part of the story. The 40 teams represented 37 engineering institutions across 14 states. Participants included teams associated with IIT Roorkee, NIT Warangal, NIT Calicut, NIT Raipur, Jadavpur University, VIT, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, KIIT and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology. The range of institutions gave students an opportunity to compare approaches and compete with peers beyond their own campuses.
Why student motorsport matters to engineering learners
A student racing vehicle is more than a track attraction. Designing and building one can require students to connect classroom concepts with practical decisions about vehicle design, components, testing and performance. The competition’s focus also included automotive design, electric mobility and sustainable transportation. Those themes make the event relevant to students exploring mechanical, automotive and related engineering fields, while teamwork and technical problem-solving remain central to taking a vehicle from concept to competition.
Representatives from organisations including JK Tyre Motorsports, Liqui Moly, IFEVA and the MSME Chamber of Commerce attended the inauguration. Their participation brought an industry-facing element to the event, with students able to engage with representatives and hear about technology, workplace expectations and entrepreneurship.
Formula Imperial and Indian Karting Race 2026 timeline
- October 8, 2026: The event’s published date window began.
- October 10, 2026: Galgotias University’s event announcement reported the competition opening and the participation figures: 40 teams, 37 institutions and 14 states.
- October 12, 2026: The published event window concluded. Available coverage described teams moving through the competition; it did not establish final results.
The event’s format offers a practical view of engineering education: students have to make a working design, prepare it for evaluation and collaborate under competitive conditions. For aspiring engineers, Formula Imperial and the Indian Karting Race can also provide a glimpse of the planning and testing involved in motorsport projects.
