The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has recorded a strong start to its placement season 2025–26, with a significant rise in pre-placement offers (PPOs). According to an official press release issued by the institute, over 300 PPOs were received this year, marking a surge of more than 33 per cent compared to the previous year.
The placement drive, which began in December, has already yielded encouraging results. A total of 1,277 pre-placement offers were secured, while more than 1,140 students have been placed so far, reflecting sustained recruiter confidence in IIT Delhi graduates despite a challenging global hiring environment.
Strong Industry Participation
Top recruiters from sectors such as technology, consulting, analytics, finance, and core engineering participated actively in the early phase of placements. PPOs were primarily offered to students who had completed internships with leading multinational corporations, global consulting firms, and Indian startups during the previous academic year.
Institute officials noted that the rise in PPOs highlights the quality of internships, industry-aligned curriculum, and research-driven skillsets of IIT Delhi students. The growing preference for PPOs also indicates that companies are increasingly focusing on long-term talent retention by converting interns into full-time employees.
Placement Momentum Continues
While the initial phase has already placed a large number of students, the placement process is expected to continue in multiple phases over the coming months. Offers across BTech, MTech, MSc, and PhD programmes are being rolled out, with both domestic and international recruiters taking part.
The institute has also emphasized its focus on diversifying career opportunities, with roles offered in areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, sustainability, semiconductor technology, and product management.
IIT Mandi Placements: Performance Over the Last 5 Years
IIT Mandi, one of the newer IITs, has shown steady improvement in placement outcomes over the last five years. The institute has consistently strengthened its industry collaborations, resulting in better placement percentages, higher average packages, and wider sectoral participation.
Over the years, IIT Mandi has witnessed growing recruitment interest from technology companies, core engineering firms, research organizations, and startups. The introduction of new academic programmes, emphasis on hands-on research, and strong faculty mentorship have contributed to its upward placement trajectory.
While year-wise placement figures vary depending on market conditions, the overall trend reflects gradual growth and increasing recognition of IIT Mandi graduates in the job market.
With IIT Delhi reporting a sharp rise in PPOs and strong early placement numbers, and IIT Mandi continuing its steady progress, the placement outlook across IITs remains positive for the 2025–26 academic cycle. As subsequent phases unfold, both institutes are expected to record further gains in student placements and recruiter participation.
