Atomic Hack India 2026: IIT Bombay and Rosatom Launch National Engineering Hackathon
IIT Bombay and Rosatom have launched Atomic Hack India 2026, a national innovation challenge inviting students to work on engineering problems linked to nuclear energy and power grids. The event is organised by JSC ETC GET with the Rosatom Corporate Academy and IIT Bombay’s Research Hub for Green Energy and Sustainability. Its central challenge asks teams to design a protection system for a 220-kilovolt transmission line connecting nuclear and renewable energy sources.
Participants will work on a Zero-Sequence Directional Overcurrent Protection scheme, which is intended to help identify and respond to electrical faults on a power line. Teams will use REPEAT VISION, a modelling and digital-twin platform developed by ETC GET, to build and test their proposed system. Trial software access, introductory webinars and mentoring are part of the programme, so prior experience with the platform is not required.

Why the Challenge Focuses on Grid Protection
As electricity systems connect more varied generation sources, engineers must consider how to detect faults and protect transmission infrastructure. Atomic Hack India gives students a structured way to explore this problem through modelling and simulation. Teams can test how their proposed protection design responds to different operating conditions before presenting their solution.
For students interested in power engineering, nuclear systems, renewable integration or digital twins, the hackathon offers an opportunity to apply technical concepts to an industry-oriented case. Interested applicants should read the rules and submit their registration through the event’s official IIT Bombay page before the deadline. They should rely on the organisers’ latest instructions for final eligibility, round requirements and event updates.
